CAPTION: Waste is a big problem in these waterways. It clogs them up, worsening the impact of flooding. The land across the river falls under the jurisdiction of Pasig City Government, which has a less effective approach to waste management. Although Makati’s city authorities frequently clean the river, it is quickly filled with waste from Pasig and other cities in the river’s catchment area. One of the key objectives of ACCCRN is to promote cooperation and coordination between different local government units. ICLEI hopes that if Pasig joins ACCCRN, it will be able to work together with Makati to develop an integrated plan for waste management.
