CAPTION: 12-year-old Hellen is an orphan who has deformed legs thanks to an accident when she was very young. She now lives with her older sister, Regina. Getting to and participating in school proves very challenging for her. Moreover, she possesses only this one smock for clothing. While SignHealth Uganda does not specialise in orthopaedic medicine, its work brings its staff into contact with many individuals like Hellen who would not otherwise have any access to medical care. The NGO partners with other organisations in the area that can help with those medical conditions outside its area of expertise. LOCATION: Kabalungi Village, Rakai District, Central Region, Uganda.
