CAPTION: Alice Ajoi is SignHealth Uganda’s ‘focus teacher’ at St Jude’s Primary School. She has received special training in how to work with children who have a hearing impairment, which she uses in her own classroom and also teaches to other staff. Outside of school, she also works among the wider community in Lukaya, providing support to parents and helping to increase awareness. Here, we see her teaching children about sexual abuse, which is sadly far more common among children with hearing impairment because they are often already ostracised and easy to target as ‘silent victims’.
