CAPTION: John has a hearing impairment, but benefited from Signhealth Uganda’s projects in Lukaya and has since regained most of his hearing function. He is seen here with is mother Margret, after arriving home from school. From school, he has to walk about four kilometres through the town of Lukaya and the bush in order to reach his home village of Lusango. Without shoes, the journey is arduous; his skin’s constant contact with the ground also impacts on his personal hygiene, a factor in causing hearing impairment through ear infections.
