CAPTION: Chung walks to his rice field with neighbouring farmers, who he recently trained on sustainable rice cultivation. Rather than working directly with individuals, We Effect acts in partnership with four community-based organisations (CBOs): the Women’s Association, the Farmers’ Association, the Veterans’ Association and the Youth Union. After strengthening the CBOs’ capacities through leadership training, 25 members from each are selected to receive training to themselves become trainers on innovative and environmentally-friendly cultivation and livestock breeding techniques. Once trained, each individual then transfers his or her technical knowledge to at least two other members of his or her CBO. This is a cost-effective way of sharing knowledge that also serves to strengthen each organisation. LOCATION: Coong Village, Huy Tuong, Son La Province, Vietnam.
