Aside from the discomfort during walking, the lack of shoes also spells hygiene issues because families tend to sleep on the same floors on which they walk; this can easily lead to ear infections. Sometimes, objects even become lodged inside people’s ears. In Veronica’s case, a bean was found inside her ear when cleaning was performed through SignHealth Uganda’s assistance.
