CAPTION: Livestock rearing provides a sizeable source of income for a number of households in Son La Province. However, disease epidemics have been a big problem in the past, while knowledge of breeding techniques was also limited. After being taught how to identify the symptoms of disease, how to feed animals a nutritious diet and how to select more productive breeds, households have been able to improve their incomes. These chickens’ owners used to let them run around in the garden, but now they keep them in cages so that they can easily look out for the symptoms of disease. They have also learned how to feed their pigs a more balanced diet, as well as where to purchase good quality feed. LOCATION: Coong Village, Huy Tuong, Son La Province, Vietnam.
